Chinese suppliers have firmed up their hold of Kenya’s solar panels market, having grown their share to 98 per cent over a period of seven years.
Records at the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) indicate that China grew its market share for solar panels in Kenya from 60 per cent in 2010 to 98 per cent in 2017.
“It is observed that China has increased its market share for photovoltaic (PV) modules within seven years from 60 per cent to 98 per cent,” the ERC says.
The list of top 12 largest suppliers of panels to Kenya comprises only Chinese companies. They include JinkoSolar (the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer), Omni Voltaic, Trina, Morning Star, Hanwha, D.Light and Power master.
